COVID-19 Precautions & Protocol

Gastrointestinal Specialists, Inc., has followed and will continue to follow all guidelines to the continued threat posed by the COVID-19 virus. We are implementing careful operational restrictions and thorough sanitation measures. The health, safety, and well-being of our patients and staff continue to be our main priority.

We are following CDC-recommended precautions and are thoroughly disinfecting our locations three times a day. We have instituted social distancing in our waiting areas and wellness checkpoints. All patients will be assessed and cleared before being allowed to enter. We are requiring all of our personnel to wear masks and all patients to be masked during their office visits. If you do not currently have a mask, we will be happy to provide one. To further minimize risk, we ask that additional family members/friends remain in their vehicles.

If you have a fever, have lower respiratory/breathing issues, have recently traveled, have ANY flu-like symptoms, and/or have been exposed to COVID-19, please give us a call before your appointment. Our scheduling team will be pleased to assist you.

Procedure Visits

The protocols outlined above for our office visits are also being followed at our outpatient endoscopy centers; the Virginia Endoscopy Group. If you are having a procedure at one of Richmond’s area hospitals, please refer to their website or paperwork you may have been given as each location may have a slightly different policy.

Colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer related deaths in the US

Colonoscopy reduces the incidence of cancer by 89%

*The above statistics were sourced from The American Cancer Society's Colorectal Cancer Statistics for 2021

Many patients with colon and rectal cancers in the early stages have NO symptoms. There is a much greater chance that cancers will advance and carry a larger risk of cancer related death once symptoms develop. This is why cancer SCREENING is extremely important, even if you don't have symptoms. Don't let undetected colorectal cancer get in the way of your future. It could save your life!
