Dr. Paul Monroe retired from Gastrointestinal Specialists Inc. in December 2013.
Dr. Monroe, a native of Elyria, Ohio, received his BA from Amherst College in Massachusetts in 1971. He then attended The University of Chicago, where he was awarded his MD in 1975. Dr. Monroe completed both his Internship and Residency at Georgetown University Hospital, and did his Fellowship in Gastroenterology from 1978 to 1980 at The University of Chicago, where he was awarded the Chicago Gastroenterology Society Fellow Research Prize.
Paul Monroe was a welcome addition to GSI in 1983, a time when the group consisted of two other GI doctors. As the years have progressed, Dr. Monroe achieved recognition for the expertise he was able to deliver in ERCP and EUS work. Known as much for his bow ties as his incisive intellect, Dr. Monroe worked with hospitals to help them achieve the goal of quality care.
