Abby Rickel began her career in 2007 in Internal Medicine/Telemetry at VCU Health Systems as a registered nurse. After graduating from the VCU School of Nursing she began working in family practice as a nurse practitioner, a position she held for ten years. With a deep background in family practice, Abby has a solid understanding of how body systems are interconnected and the way they may impact gastrointestinal care.
She is a firm believer in forging positive relationships with patients in order to understand their health-related needs and goals so that she can work collaboratively with each individual. Her approach is patient-centered and is ultimately focused on working constructively toward their goals in order to achieve the best possible state of health for her patients.
A native of Richmond she is a huge fan of the outdoors and can often be found on the water, whether that’s on a paddleboard or fishing. The coast is always calling her name. Abby and her husband have two children who dabble in several different sports that keeps her family busy on evenings and weekends with football games, soccer matches and swim meets.
